Indiana added to the Early Access Program

We're delighted to share that our power grid data now features the hidden substation data for the state of Indiana. This update reveals 324 new substations identified by our advanced system, marking a remarkable 40% more compared to the widely used HIFLD dataset in the US. Explore this enhanced data, and watch out for more updates on the horizon!

California added to the Early Access Program

We are thrilled to announce that we have updated our power grid data with the state of California. This update includes 198 new substations detected by our proprietary system. This represents a 6% increase over the HIFLD dataset, which is the most widely used source of power grid data in the US. California is one of our most requested states to date, and we are excited to have this data live in our platform for all Early Access Program customers. We hope you enjoy this new feature and stay tuned for more updates coming soon!

South Dakota added to the Early Access Program

We are happy to announce that we have expanded our early access program dataset to include substations for South Dakota!

This means that we have added 61 new substation detections in South Dakota, representing a 10% increase over HIFLD substation data points, bringing our total number of substation locations to over 3,500 across 15 states.

New elevation and slope datasets added to Astraea platform

We are excited to announce that we have added new Elevation and Slope datasets to the Astraea platform. These layers, using USGS 3DEP LiDAR, provide high-quality elevation data within the platform, nationwide. Users can enable contours, a visual DEM raster, and slope layers as overlays within the platform to more accurately visualize terrain, and the profile of a particular site.

These layers are automatically available to users in the Layers window. To access them, simply click on the Layers icon on the left sidebar, and then select the Elevation and Slope category. You will see four options: Contour, Elevation (DEM), and Slope. You can toggle each option on or off by clicking on the checkbox next to it.

These new datasets are based on the USGS 3DEP LiDAR data, which is a high-resolution elevation data collection that covers the Continental United States, Hawaii, and the U.S. territories. The data has a horizontal resolution of 1 meter and a vertical accuracy of 10 cm or better. The data is updated regularly as new LiDAR surveys are conducted.

PA, VT, & ND added to the Early Access Program

We are thrilled to announce that we have added substations for Pennsylvania, Vermont, and North Dakota to our early access program dataset!

This includes 81 additional substation detections in Pennsylvania, 24 in Vermont, and 51 in North Dakota, added to our collection of over 3,400 substation locations across a total of 16 states, and growing!

Data management improvements

We have revamped our Data Management panel in the Astraea app to make vector data easier to access, manage, and organize. These changes apply to layers provided by Astraea (such as parcels, all your site locations, MapNotes, and other subscription-included data) as well as your own uploaded data.

We have added filters to help you organize your data more easily. You can use these filters to sort your data by different categories, such as:

  • Team Data: This category contains all the vector layers that you or your team members have uploaded to the Astraea app.
  • Subscription Data: This category includes the vector layers that are provided and maintained by Astraea as part of your subscription plan. For example, you can find state and county boundaries, parcels, and transmission lines in this category. You can customize the appearance of these layers and download them if you have the permissions granted to do so. Some layers are read-only, which means you cannot rename or modify them, but you can still add them to a map.
  • Project Data: This category shows all of the sites that you have created in various projects. Whenever you upload a vector layer as a site within the Astraea app, a new copy of that layer will be saved in this category, to preserve the original data.
  • MapNotes: This category displays all of your map notes from the sites and projects that you and your team have access to.
  • All Data: This category lets you view all of your data in one place.

New features details window

We are excited to announce a new feature that will help you get more insights from your data: the Feature Details panel. This panel allows you to view and download all the data associated with any available vector layer while in Site view, such as Parcels, utility lines, or your own uploaded datasets.

In Site view, click on any vector feature that you want to inspect. A window will appear displaying all the data for that feature. If there are multiple, overlapping features, you can scroll through the list and collapse or expand the ones you want to see.

Download: To download the data for a feature as a CSV file, click on the ‘download’ button at the top of the panel.

New states added to the Early Access Program

We are excited to announce that we have added substations for North Carolina and New Hampshire to our early access program dataset! This includes 315 additional substation detections in North Carolina and 47 in New Hampshire, added to our collection of over 3,000 substation locations across a total of 11 states, and counting! Existing customers will have these states added to your account automatically.

New and improved data management features

We have made significant improvements to the Data Management section to provide you with a centralized space for managing all geospatial data and layers associated with your projects. You can now access and manage the following types of datasets and layers:

  • Sites: Geometries of site locations within a given project
  • Map Notes: Geometry and text associated with a given project’s map notes
  • Layers: Read-only layers provided by Astraea for use within the platform. These include features such as boundaries, parcels, infrastructure, etc.
  • Uploaded data: Datasets you or your team uploaded to the platform.

The Add Data button allows you to quickly upload data in shapefile (zipped), .kmz, .geojson, or .geopackage format.

Search: Quickly search for a dataset by name using the search bar.

Manage: Customize the look and feel of your data as it is displayed on the map, as well as update the name and description of the layer by clicking on the Manage button.

Download: Export a copy of your own data or layers you have download permissions for in geojson, shapefile, or geopackage format by clicking on the Download button. Choose the desired file type and wait for the download to process. When ready, click “download” to complete the process. Note: you will always have download permissions for the data you upload to Astraea.

More Options: Clicking the [...] icon provides some additional actions such as

  • Add to project as layer: Quickly add a dataset into an existing project as view-only layers. This feature is particularly useful for adding overlays or reference layers to your imagery.
  • Delete: Deletes the dataset from your account. Note that datasets cannot be deleted if they have dependencies or projects associated with them.

A comprehensive view of all of your orders

Our new Order Management tab is designed to provide users with a comprehensive and efficient view of their imagery tasking orders, credit balances, and credit forecasts on the Astraea Platform. This update empowers users with tools for tracking and managing their imagery transactions and budget. Here's what you can expect:

The Overview window displays your current credit balance, forecasted spend (based on scheduled orders), as well as how many pending and scheduled orders are currently associated with your account.

The Credits Forecast section provides an estimate of the future cost of recurring orders, helping you plan and manage your credit balance accordingly. This forecast enables you to budget effectively and ensure all planned tasking orders can be processed without any interruptions.

Order List: The improved Order List displays all your scheduled and fulfilled orders in one convenient location. You can access valuable insights such as:

  • Expanded Order Details: Simply click on the order name to expand and view additional information about the order. This includes location, date(s), status, and price (in credits).
  • User and Creation Details: View the name of the user who placed the order and the order creation date.
  • Priority Level: If applicable, the priority level (e.g., standard, high-priority, etc.) is also displayed for better order management.

Cancellation and Order Editing: Manage your orders using the following features:

  • Cancel Scheduled Orders: Easily cancel scheduled orders that have not yet begun tasking. Simply click on the cancel order button accessible via the icon. Please note that this action only applies to orders that haven't been initiated.
  • Edit Order Details: Make necessary updates to order details such as Name, ID code, or Billing Code to correct errors or fill in missing information.

Order Status: The following statuses can apply to orders on the Astraea Platform:

  • Requested: The order has been submitted and is awaiting further processing. It has been successfully received by the system and is in the queue for review and scheduling.
  • Scheduled: The order has been configured for a future date and time, based on the recurring orders feature in advanced ordering.
  • Ordered: The order has been confirmed and sent to our satellite partner for execution. It is actively being processed and coordinated with the satellite(s) to acquire the requested imagery.
  • Post Processing: The image has been captured and is now being processed by the partner system. Orders finish processing within 24 hours.
  • Ingested: The image has been fetched from our partner’s system and we are creating any derived products and indexing the image. The image will be available for viewing within your account with minimal latency.
  • Unsuccessful: The order could not be fulfilled due to unforeseen circumstances or technical issues, such as persistent cloud cover over the target area, preventing successful imagery capture. In such cases, a refund will be issued automatically.
  • Cancel Requested: The user has submitted a request to cancel the order before it has begun tasking. The cancellation is pending and dependent on what stage in the process it was received.
  • Canceled: The order has been successfully canceled and will no longer be processed. A refund will be issued, if applicable.
  • Fulfilled: The order is complete and associated images and derivatives have been delivered to your account.

Filters and Sorting: You can filter or sort your orders by the following criteria:

  • Name
  • Location
  • Start Date (for recurring orders)
  • End Date (for recurring orders)
  • Status (List)
  • Price (range)
